I received this book as a gift when I was younger and to this day I still find it good for light reading. The story stays on line with no interruptions of the plot. I would recommend this book to anyone aged 10 or over who likes a good science fiction book that they can get into.

I'm interested in both the history of Highgate Cemetery and its gothic beauty. As an artist I was so taken by the beauty of many of the black and white photos which are inspirational for those interested in gothic subjects.

Thoroughly enjoyed this book. Mass Observation asked people who were prepared to write a diary for their workers. The book contains diaries from UK citizens (1945-48) The 5 individuals selected for publishing have done a sterling job. I was born in 1957, so I missed WW11. But reading the diaries was shocking, thrilling, amusing, poignant and a veritable education of postwar Britain.

I borrowed this to listen to, but have to say that I soon stopped listening. It was not the story itself, but the way in which it was read. William Golding is obviously an intelligent man and is very well spoken, but when reading the story, he really does not show any enthusiasm for his own book and it's easy to turn off the story. He also has an introduction to each chapter, which is very tiresome. My recommendation would be to either read the book in paper format or to try and get an audiobook that is read by someone else. The two stars are purely for the story itself and would have been a lot higher had someone else read it.

An absorbing insight into the life of Elizabeth of York and what it was like to live as a woman, queen and mother to the two princes in the tower. Written in the first person, this novel reflects the belief systems of the time, from the point of view of the church and that of the mystic/psychic, when a woman's intuition was valued and trusted by those close to her. It is a tale of extremes, but through it all Elizabeth suvives by her intuition and intelligence, which she uses to the full, scheming to keep the York family, united to her own in marriage to King Edward, on the throne of England and bring peace to the country. But she gets drawn into the political scheming of the day and has to use all her cunning and knowledge of those in power to ensure the royal lineage of her sons. A wonderful window into a woman's world.

It is the very captivating, and one of the best books I've read. The movies are all hyped up and normally I can't stand the mainstream vampire books, but this one was somehow different! Once I started it I couldnt put it down, I found myself still reading at 4:00am and it hadn't felt as if that time had passed at all! After reading the books the movies were a must see - not to mention the pro's of some of the actors ;)

The shack is an amazing story which talks about God's relationships whith us - humans. I normally don't read this kind of book but I am so glad I did. I have been trying to understand my relationship with God for the past few years and this book answered all my questions: what is God, what is holy trinity, how to experience faith, why God is a father figure etc. It made so much impact on me that my life will never be the same.l
